What to know before taking chloroquine?

People should not take this drug if they are allergic to chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine.

Do not take this medicine in high doses or for a long duration. It may cause irreversible damage to your retina, which could lead to permanent vision problems. The risk is higher in people who already have eye problems, kidney disease, or people who also take tamoxifen.

Taking this drug in high amounts may lead to an overdose. The overdose symptoms may include drowsiness, vision changes, seizure, slow heart rate, weak pulse, sudden dizziness, shortness of breath, fainting, or slow breathing.
